Işıl Çağatay

Işıl Çağatay

"My name is Işıl Çağatay and I was born in Izmir, Turkey. Ever since I was a child I have always had a huge affinity with Italy, the country of origin of design… and here I am, after getting my degrees as Product Designer from Bachelor's Degree at Bahcesehir University and Politecnico di Milano.

"The experimentation part of the design process means 'getting your hands dirty'. Luckily I have been finding a lot of occasion here to test my imagination and to realize bridges between art and a product and now I have had a great opportunity to create my own collection".

Metal plates that become palettes where colors emerge, in more or less intense shades. Like the surface of the water that ripples, expands and then changes shape, here is MAVI which in Turkish means BLUE. No order, no set pattern, no script. Creativity takes possession of the material and makes it precisely in an inscrutable dance, following irregular and therefore fascinating rhythms. Each painting is a surprise, a flash that dazzles and leaves you speechless. When the amazement subsides for a moment, all the exuberance of the colors materializes.

Klimt's precious gold, Leonardo's shaded browns, Van Gogh's bright yellow, Manet's vibrant green, Titian's warm copper tones... chromatic inspirations are reflected in these slabs. Işıl Çağatay's collection embraces art giving it a new contemporary interpretation. With a look at Impressionism that saw the overcoming of the contours and the objective definition of the shapes and one towards Abstractionism, it is color that triumphs.
